Keeping Your dog’s Nails Clipped
Having a family pet can provide great benefits for your family, but there is a certain amount of responsibility that you are required to put forth in order to ensure that your family pet is healthy and well taken care of. Dogs are usually quite active pets and must have a lot of attention to stay happy with their current situation. To make sure that they can continue to run and play with your family, it is important that you keep your dogs’ nails short.
Although this may not sound like the first priority on your list, it is important that you try to keep your dog’s nails as short as possible. This lowers the chance that the dog will receive an injury from playing with the family. If a dog were to play with long nails on carpet, there is a chance that the dog might catch a nail on the carpet and break or tear the nail. This can be a painful experience for the dog to go through. Once the nail is broken, you will need to take your dog to the vet to get it looked at for any sign of bleeding or ripped skin.
There is also a chance that the nail could bend, which would mean even more pain for the dog. You would need to take the dog into the local Atlanta Vet Clinic to get the nail checked out and pulled. To save trouble and pain for the dog and yourself, it is helpful to just have the dog’s nails clipped about as often as you would trim your own nails. Two weeks is usually a good time frame to have your dog’s nails clipped at the vet office. There are also local pet stores that will groom your dog for less money than you will pay at the vet.
